About the Dog Park
Prairie Pastures Dog Park
Prairie Pastures "Off-Leash" Dog Park is over 8 acres of adventure, completely surrounded by secure fencing, and conveniently located adjacent to Eagle Point Park. We have areas dedicated to small dogs, big dogs, and a special needs area for senior dogs or those with disabilities. The terrain is varied with numerous trees for encouraging squirrel chasing, "King of the Hill" areas, nature trails, mown areas for Frisbee catching and over grown areas for "getting your nose dirty" exploring! During the warmer months we have wading pools for cooling off, and water spigots for getting a cool drink. For us humans, we have shade trees, benches, shelter from the elements, and complementary waste bags.
Dogs are social animals; they need to spend time with their humans and often enjoy interacting with other dogs. Our park is a great way for owners to exercise and socialize their dogs while socializing with other owners. Our park can be busy at times, but it's still easy to find a time when you have the place to yourself. Try to schedule your first visit to our park at a quiet time to give your pooch a chance to check things out without being overwhelmed by all the regulars. Ease into the park experience by playing with just one other dog, before you meet "the whole gang". And anytime your dog appears afraid or anxious, leave the park or at the very least move to a more quiet area within the park.
Properly socialized dogs and responsible, attentive owners can find hours of enjoyment at our dog park, and you'll have one tired puppy on your hands when you get home! If you have concerns over whether your pup is a good candidate for the dog park, please contact us to arrange for a candid assessment.
Prairie Pastures Dog Park is a branch of the Soaring Eagle Nature Center of Clinton Iowa. The park was opened in April of 2007 and is supported and maintained entirely by donations, memberships and by the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. Entrance to the park is from inside Eagle Point Park, across from the south playground. Hours of operation are the same as Eagle Point's: daily, 8am till closing which varies with the season and is posted at the main entrance.
We look forward to meeting up with you and your doggie companion at our fantastic park!
