Prairie Pastures Dog Park: a place to run free

With Fall here we are thinking about the Fantasy of Lights display that will be set up by the JayCees throughout the park, but we will still have easy access to the dog park. There will be no guide wire or light display in front of the entry gates, and we will still be able to park at the lot by the south playground. Remember to have your ID badge.

For new visitors, just turn at the orange gate, and you'll see the dog park entry sign on your right. The parking is on the left. Identify youself as a visitor to the dog park, if asked.

The Splash Pools have been stored for the winter, and the water will soon be turned off, so the large drinking buckets will be stored too. The smaller drinking bowls will be left out so if you want to bring your own water you won't have to bring a bowl.

The cooler weather hasn't stopped the dogs from using the swim pond....they are still having a great time in there. They'll probably use it until it freezes over.

Now that we have the aerator and spray working...we pulled it when the freezing nights hit....we can get it going first thing next spring, and hopefully avoid the algae and duckweed getting so thick again.

If the weather gets nasty, and the terrain in the large dog yard gets too slippery, we'll again use the senior yard as a primary play yard for large dogs. Remember, you can enter the senior yard, and cut through the shelter, or the gates by the shelter to get to the back area of the large dog yard.

With the fence being removed out in the back area, it makes a lot more running room for the large dogs, and they really seem to enjoy it. Come spring, we'll be doing some different mowing back there, I think, so the "hunters" will still have their area, too.

Prairie Pastures is not quite 2 1/2 years old, and we've sure come a long way. We're still a work in progress, but I'm not sure we'll ever be finished....we'll probably always be thinking of something new to add, and of course our members, and even visitors, can give us ideas to work on, too.

We still have some acres to clear out, and do more work on the pond next spring, so while the winter months seem to be dormant months at the dog park for work.....unless we get wind and ice which breaks trees and branches that need to be cleaned up....our minds are always working on new things to do for our canine friends.

Remember, unless Eagle Point's gates are closed, Prairie Pastures is always open, unless for safety reasons, 8 AM until dusk, all year long.

Joining the Prairie Pastures Off-Leash Dog Park

Joining the Soaring Eagle Nature Society gives you access to the Prairie Pastures Off-Leash Dog Park. Once you send in your membership application you will receive your welcome letter, list of rules and etiquette, and your membership badge, which you must display whenever you visit the park with your canine friends.  Membership forms are available by calling 563-249-4906 or by visiting the park.  The forms are located in the Membership box on the main entrance gate.

Not sure what the dog park is like, or if your dog will like it? Then take out a day pass for $3.00 and visit the park. Once you do, and see what all there is, you'll be eager to join! Day Passes are located next to the main entry gate.
